sienna-marble-table

Nevin at Circa 19th Century Antiques has put up several Victorian-era lots on Ebay that will sell by this Sunday. I will draw your attention to three of them in particular: A fine Renaissance Revival parlor table with desirable sienna marble. From the listing:
C 1860-70 Renaissance Victorian center table, probably NYC, maybe Pottier & Stymus or Gustave Herter, solid and burl walnut, rare Sienna marble top, desirable and unusual form with bowed ends and cabriole legs, bellflower/leaf carved tablet raised and incised panel skirt, fluted legs with scrolled leaf and bulls eye carvings, full burl stretcher with great holly leaf, berry and ribbon carving and incised carved medallion, 43” long, 28” wide, 28.5” tall.
A top of the line Merklen table in Primavera mahogany. From the listing:
Exceptional Victorian library table, by Merklen Brothers, NYC, 1882-1897, solid Primavera (highest grade Merklen offered), spiral reeded edge and skirt moldings, shaped spiral reeded, turned legs, skirt castings are of a winged full bodied dragon holding a serpent in its mouth. Shelf brackets are lion heads with bat wings and the cast claw with the typical Merklen wood ball feet, 38” long, 25.5” wide, 29.5” tall
Lastly, a satin glass ewer, probably by Stevens & Williams. From the listing:
MOP Circa 1880 satin glass ewer, Stevens & Williams, sought after Pompeian swirl and in the excellent peachblow colors popular at the time, mother of pearl/pearl ware, fading from deep rose to brilliant yellows at the rim, pearl finish, cased interior with white lining, satin frosted applied handle, 12” tall

Well...Vic is still a fantastic buy/hard to sell/Vic buyers just don't seem to have any $$ right now...good glass seems to be not quite as recessed. I think I will stick to Empire for those grand ole antebellum homes. But then when I can buy Vic for these prices and flip...I guess I will still handle that also.

Let me know if the Merklen deal doesn't go through. I was interested in that one. Need to keep adding to my Merklen hoard.

Antique Searches Fixed

I haven't been using the Antique searches here on Rare Victorian ("Buy Antiques" link at the top of the page) in a long while and what I didn't know as a result is that most of them were broken. eBay changed the way the

No Reserve - Signed Alexander Roux Bed

You don't come across a signed, Rosewood Alexander Roux bed for $2k that often (current price with no reserve). It's not an overly grandiose bed in size or sophistication of design, but the carvings are exceptionally wel
