Pottier & Stymus Bedroom Furniture Receipt

January 12, 2010

Here’s another interesting find from the files of the Rensselaer County Historical Society in Troy, NY. This is an 1861 receipt to Richard P. Hart, Jr. for bedroom furniture provided by the firm of Pottier & Stymus, dated April 3rd, 1861.  The writing on the rear appears to record the completion of payments totaling [...]

September 25, 2008

Plenty of high-end Victorian coming up in the Fontaine sale in a few days with all the usual suspects: Belter, Roux, Meeks, Jelliff, Baudouine, Pottier & Stymus, and Horner among others.  The Meeks Hawkins pattern set above is expected to bring $35,000-$50,000 and a Belter Milwaukee 3-piece set, $20,000 to $30,000.  A surprisingly unassuming bedstead [...]

I’ll open by saying all is not in [...]

Egyptian Revival Parcel-Ebonized Rosewood Chair

April 22, 2008

I can’t believe it popped into my head. Anyhow, in case there are some Egyptian Revival fans out there, I thought I’d mention this chair coming up for [...]

March 6, 2008

I thought that some of you might enjoy seeing this original Pottier & Stymus business card that I recently acquired. The address dates it to be 1871 and afterwards. Note the reference to Tiffany & Co. in the lower right corner (click the image to expand it). I can’t pinpoint the reasoning [...]
