Pottier & Stymus Neo-Grec Half-Tester Bedstead

Published by RareVictorian under Auction, Ebay Antiques

pottier-stymus-half-tester-bed Pottier & Stymus Neo-Grec Half-Tester Bedstead

Grand View has the Pottier & Stymus-attributed bedstead shown to the right in their upcoming September 13th sale.

You don’t get more straightforward Neo-Grec than this - a repeating Greek Key pattern surrounding the classical-themed bronze plaque.  Like a Greek wreath split in half, either laurel or olive leaves create tassels on either side of the headboard.

The bed is constructed of Rosewood and Curly Maple, the latter of which can be seen in the footboard corners.

Grand View is saying that the canopy is an unusual form due to the large drop finials.

Bidding starts at $9,000 and expected range is $18,000 to $25,000.  More at the listing.

Nearly Identical Pair Of Rococo Bedsteads

Published by RareVictorian under Ebay Antiques

Pair Victorian Rococo Beds

If you’ve ever wanted a pair of Rococo style Victorian beds, QUEEN size no less, then this is your chance. There are minor differences in the carvings, but you can see that they appear to have come from the same shop, possibly the New Orleans area.

The main difference is that one is made of Walnut while the other is of Mahogany.  They have been refinished so they will have a like new appearance.

With four days to go they have been bid up to $7,600 with reserve not met.  More details at the listing.

Herter Brothers Eye Candy

Published by RareVictorian under Museum

I thought I’d share two photos of Herter Brothers pieces from my recent Philadelphia Museum of Art trip. You’ll have to excuse the photography as it was with a camera that was foreign to me and since the Herters’ pieces were behind glass, I think it created some challenges for the auto-focus.

The first photo shows a Herter Brothers half-tester bed and a side-char.

The next photo shows an inlaid table attributed to Herter Brothers.  You can see the bottom left corner of what is a large wall mirror that I should have photographed, but the camera was running out of juice.
