Galusha Mahogany Secretary

Thumbnail image for Galusha Mahogany Secretary

To continue to fill out my online collection of Elijah Galusha furniture photographs, this secretary is another known Elijah Galusha piece in residence at the Rensselaer Historical Society in Troy, NY.  I’m assuming 1835-1850-ishdate for this piece.  The pulls are replacements unfortunately, so don’t be distracted by their later date.

January 23, 2010

I was perusing the Armory show on 67th Street yesterday and while I was dashing through at lightspeed scanning the dearth of Victoriana, I had to stop to hear the rest of this conversation between two random show-goers:
She, admiring a piece of art: “the duality [of the piece]….it’s incredible”.
He: “Yes, it’s palpable”.
Me, thinking: “gag”.
I always [...]

Book Review: Winterthur Portfolio 10

January 19, 2010

Published in 1975 by the University Press of Virginia for The Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum, this book holds some valuable reference material for Victorian furniture fans. I personally purchased it for the multitude of Phoenix Furniture Co. photos such as the one above that provide a reference for the furniture that they [...]
