OK, i went ahead and inquired about the "Townsend" chest and asked if there was any other basis except the drawers to attribute it to him and got a 1 word reply today, NO.

I would argue that the main reason young folks are turned off to collecting is, they simply do not have the time to invest in learning about them and figure they will just get ripped off. This is not a good development for the future antique business and the industry has no one to blame but themselves.

LOL @ cause i said so. Dead funny. Obviously, auction houses have a vested interest in attaching a name to whatever object so it's always a good policy to really question how they came up with attribution if one is bidding on it.

On a related note, Kaminski has a 5 drawer chest that they are attributing to Townsend for sale next week. Although i have not checked (i am not bidding on it), it seems they have based attribution on drawers being marked A1, A2, A3.

Is it Townsend? I dunno but if thats all they got, it's not near enough.

Scroll down, and mouse over 5 drawer chest.
