Since seeing Allen and Brother items for sale is rare, I thought I'd mention this sofa (attributed to Allen & Bro.) that will be auctioned off in the same sale as the Allen and Brother credenza that I previously posted about. You can see an identical sofa in the May 1996 "The Magazine Antiques" article by Page Talbott on page 720. There is a nice balance of the use of ebonizing on this piece and the winged griffins holding shields is a unique design element. I'm also fond of the two front center legs and how they angle outward rather than the usual perpendicular orientation. Bidding ends on the 13th with a starting price of $10,000 and expected range of $20,000 to $30,000. More details here.
