Up for bidding is a Rosewood pierced slipper chair by John Henry Belter. Chairs of identical overall form with variations in the carved detail can be seen in both “The Furniture of John Henry Belter and the Rococo Revival” by Schwartz, Stanek, True and “American Furniture of the 19th Century” by Eileen and Richard Dubrow. Adorned with roses, grapes, and scrolls at the crown, acorns, vines, and grapes at the sides and fruit and roses on the apron. Belter signature roses on the knees. 7-layer lamination and retains original brass casters. Bidding starts at $1,500 and expected range is $3,000 to $5,000. Ends April 1st.
